Meet Jim Roop

When he’s not in the office, Jim can be found cooking up a favorite recipe, traveling abroad or enjoying a glass of fine wine.

Jim Roop brings more than 45 years of strategic PR counsel to our agency. Before founding Roop & Co. in 1996, he served for 15 years as chief operating officer of Watt, Roop & Co. (now Fleishman-Hillard), which was one of the Midwest’s largest independent PR agencies. Earlier in his career, Jim was vice president for Burson-Marsteller and Ketchum. During his distinguished career, he has led client projects that won nine PRSA Silver Anvil Awards and was granted the PRSA Cleveland chapter’s Lighthouse Award for lifetime achievements in 1999.

He is a fellow and accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America, where he served as past chair of its national Honors & Awards Committee and Financial Communications Section. A charter member of the NIRI Senior Roundtable, Jim is past president of its Cleveland and Pittsburgh chapters.

Jim is a graduate of West Virginia University, where he is immediate past chair of its North Coast Cleveland Alumni Association and is a past member of the advisory board for its journalism school. In addition, he is past president of The Hermit Club and past board member for local non-profits Malachi House and Home Repair Resource Center.

“Good communication is a lot like cooking. Sometimes, a really complex recipe is required to achieve all the nuances you want with flavor. Other times, simple is all you need. With cooking or communication, the key is knowing what you need to achieve.”
