
Interactive Annual Report for Global, NYSE-Listed Company
RPM International Inc.
Challenge:
A $6.1–billion global leader in specialty coatings, sealants and building materials, RPM International Inc. enlisted Roop & Co., its agency of record, to develop its fiscal 2020 annual report case study. The objective was to communicate with shareholders the continued progress of RPM’s operational improvement program, “Building a Better World” initiative and proactive response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Solution:
Roop & Co. leveraged the theme “Building a Better World” for the annual report case study, which was brought to life through supporting content and visuals that showcased how RPM strives to make the world a better place through its products and services. This featured real-life examples of RPM employees who actually create the products that beautify, protect and enhance structures around the world. Additional focus was placed on RPM companies that went above and beyond to provide critical solutions during the pandemic. The annual report case study also communicated progress of RPM’s operational improvement program, as well as recent company news ranging from strategic acquisitions to product innovations. In addition to the traditional printed report, Roop & Co. also developed a supplemental online report that offered a variety of interactive resources, such as videos, graphics, downloadable PDFs and additional stories.
Results:
Nine months after distribution of its annual report case study, RPM’s stock closed at an all-time high of $99.30—a nearly 17% increase. While market conditions and company performance heavily impact the stock market, RPM’s annual report played a key role as well. The annual report case study also served as a useful marketing tool for RPM’s acquisition strategy. Since the report was issued, RPM acquired four businesses with $105 million in combined annual sales.
